The latest National Statistics on the ambulance service in Wales produced by the Welsh Government were released on 4 April according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority website Statistics on ambulance services in Wales include data for February 2012. The latest release, which has been revised to reflect the NHS Wales Annual Quality Framework 2011-12, updates the statistics previously released on 7 March.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • there were almost 33,000 emergency calls, and of these, just under 13,000 were Category A (immediately life-threatening) calls; and
  • 63.2% (7,921) emergency responses to Category A (immediately life-threatening) calls arrived at the scene within 8 minutes, below the all-Wales target of 65% for only the second time in the last 12 months.
