Water Resources Management Plans

Water companies are required to prepare and maintain Water Resources Management Plans to show how a water company intends to balance supply and demand for water in their area over the next 25 years.

On 20 June 2012 Welsh Ministers published the Water Resources Management Plan Direction 2012 jointly with the Secretary of State. The purpose of this Direction is to signify the official start of the next water resources management planning period.

We have worked with the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Environment Agency to develop a Water Resources Management Planning Guideline.

Water companies must consult on their plans once they have been completed and submitted to Welsh Ministers. The plans will be made available on the water company websites.
