Foundation Phase

The Foundation Phase places great emphasis on children learning by doing. Young children will be given more opportunities to gain first hand experiences through play and active involvement rather than by completing exercises in books.

Learning Pathways 14-19

Learning Pathways 14-19 is a commitment to transform the learning provision for all young people in Wales. It addresses the need for a flexible and balanced approach to the education of 14-19 year olds.

Welsh Baccalaureate

The Welsh Baccalaureate combines personal development skills with existing qualifications like A Levels, NVQs and GCSEs to make one wider award that is valued by employers and universities.

Visit the Welsh Baccalaureate website for more information.

Further Education

Further education can mean the learning of basic skills such as numeracy or literacy, or work related training for commerce and industry. Further education can lead onto higher education or university and is usually provided by local colleges or schools.

Higher Education

You can study higher education at a university or college of further education. Higher education doesn't necessarily mean a degree. You could study a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND), or even a Diploma of Higher Education.
