The two leading environmental politicians met at a reception hosted by Governor Schwarzenegger at the climate change summit in Denmark.

Ms Davidson said:

"Fresh from receiving an award to recognise California's leadership on climate I was very pleased that Governor  Schwarzenegger complimented Wales on the work we are undertaking on this agenda saying we are all in this together.

"It is clear from the commitments that regional governments across the world have already made that we are setting the pace on this agenda and hopefully our example will lead to a deal by the end of the week."

Governor Schwarzenegger also met Assembly Government officials. He told them:

“Keep up the good work in your efforts to fight climate change.”

Ms Davidson is attending the event in her role as Chair of the Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development (nrg4SD) and as the Assembly Government Minister responsible for Climate Change in Wales which has taken a leading role in demonstrating what subnational government can do. It provided an opportunity for Ms Davidson and Governor Schwarzenegger to exchange good practice with other nations and regions.

The meeting follows Ms Davidson’s attendance at climate change talks hosted by the Climate Group and attended by Governor Schwarzenegger in California in October.

There, she addressed political leaders from around the world about the central role that regions and small nations such as Wales had in averting runaway climate change. Regional leaders were joined by key environmental officials from President Obama’s administration.
