Following the announcement of the first two areas last July local authorities were invited to submit applications to become pioneer areas in phase II.
The three consortia that have now been selected are:
- Cardiff and Newport;
- South-West Consortium - Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire;
- North-West Consortium - Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy.
The aim of the pioneers is to lead the way in improving the delivery of services to families across Wales, especially those living in poverty, as set out in the Welsh Assembly Government’s Child Poverty Strategy. The Assembly Government wants to rapidly identify best ways of working and share this on an all-Wales basis.
Huw Lewis said:
“In our Child Poverty Strategy, which was launched last month, I outlined our intention to roll-out the Families First pioneers on an all-Wales basis from April 2012. Today’s announcement is the next step to making that happen.
“We want to create new and innovative ways of working with families which tackle the whole problem through an integrated system which delivers results. A one size fits all solution simply won't work and is not cost effective.
“We received proposals of a good standard across the piece which reflected a developing understanding among local authorities of the Families First initiative.
“It is clear that there is an appetite to improve the way we deliver our services to families, for families and we will work closely with all local authorities as we move to full rollout of Families First in 2012.
“The three consortia that were selected all demonstrated strong ideas for working together in their efforts to support families. I believe that families in those areas will see a better, more joined-up approach in the help and support they receive.”
