Consultation

A Compact between the Welsh Language Board, Welsh Assembly Government and the Third Sector

A Compact is an agreement between two or more organisations that share a common agenda. It sets out shared vision and objectives and a commitment to work together. This consultation paper sought views on the draft Compact between the Welsh Language Board, Welsh Assembly Government and the Third Sector to work together to strengthen the third sector’s support for the use of Welsh as a community language.
Start of consultation: 01/11/2008
End of consultation: 31/01/2009

Earlier this year the Welsh Assembly Government, in partnership with the third sector in Wales, published “The Third Dimension – A Strategic Action Plan for the Voluntary Sector Scheme.”

This forms the cornerstone of the Assembly Government’s future relationship with the third sector and an important part of this is the strengthening of the third sector’s support for the use of Welsh as a community language through strategic collaboration between the sector, the Assembly Government and the Welsh Language Board.

The National Action Plan for a Bilingual Wales, ‘Iaith Pawb’ recognises that the third sector has an especially important role to play in supporting the use of the language at a community level and the Assembly Government has been working with the sector and the Welsh Language Board in the development of a tripartite Compact.

This draft Compact was put out to public consultation, which ended on 31 January 2009.

The establishment of this Compact is an important step towards establishing new, and improving existing, links.
