Equality Act 2010 - Performance of the Public Sector Equality Duties in Wales

Consultation on the draft Equality Act 2010 (Statutory Duties) (Wales) Regulations 2011.
Start of consultation: 21/09/2010
End of consultation: 17/12/2010

The Equality Act 2010 introduces a new general public sector equality duty that will come into force in April 2011. The Act makes provision for the Welsh Ministers to be able to make regulations that impose specific public sector equality duties on relevant Welsh public authorities listed in Part 2 of Schedule 19 to the Act.

The purpose of these new specific equality duties is to improve performance of the general duty by the public sector.

As such, the duties proposed in this document have been developed with the involvement of key stakeholders from the public and Third Sectors in Wales.

The Listening Exercise that concluded in November 2009 was part of this process of involvement and the summary report can be found under 'Related links'.

These proposed duties have been developed to be proportionate in design, relevant to need, transparent in approach and tailored to guide relevant Welsh public authorities towards better performance of the general duty. The ambition is to better meet the needs of the citizens of Wales relying on the services provided to them by the public sector.
